Epson Pro EX10000 3LCD 1080p Wireless Laser Projector Review – Notable Features

December 31, 2021 / By Project Reviews Staff

The Pro EX10000 utilizes numerous popular and proprietary Epson features and technologies discussed in detail in Epson PowerLite 725W and Epson Brightlink 1485Fi review. I will, however, summarize some of the more notable Epson features found on the Pro EX10000.

WIRELESS CONNECTIVITY

The Epson Pro EX10000 has wireless connectivity, including Miracast®.

The Pro EX10000 wireless connectivity includes screen mirroring with Miracast®. In addition, the two HDMI ports on the projector allow the Pro EX10000 to connect streaming devices, including Apple TV, Google Chromecast, Roku, and Amazon Fire TV.

The Epson Pro EX1000’s built-in Miracast employs the peer-to-peer Wi-Fi Direct standard. In addition, Miracast functionality allows for content to be displayed from Miracast equipped laptops, smartphones, and tablets to the projector.

Miracast is an industry-wide solution introduced in 2012 by the Wi-Fi Alliance. Using Miracast allows the Technology to work across many devices regardless of brand. Connections are relatively easy to set up and use since most Miracast devices choose the appropriate settings automatically.

EPSON IPROJECTION SOFTWARE

The Pro EX10000 also supports Epson’s iProjection software allows you to project the screens of users’ Macs, Windows Computers, as well as Android-based Chromebooks over a network. With Epson’s iProjection app, users can project from iOS mobile devices and Android mobile devices, as long as the projector is connected to a network that includes a wireless access point (WAP).

The meeting moderator can manage and display content from a maximum of 50 local and remote users on devices and computers compatible with Epson iProjection software. The moderator can also assign presenter designation to any meeting attendees, regardless of where they are. For example, suppose the presenter status has changed. In that case, the new presenter can elect to display content from up to four devices at one time or freeze the displayed content for comments or annotations. Epson iProjection is the perfect tool for displaying an assortment of content or comparing work side by side.

TRUE 3-CHIP 3LCD TECHNOLOGY

The Pro EX10000 has 3-Chip 3LCD Technology.

3LCD projectors like the Epson Pro EX10000 use three LCD chips, one Red LCD, one Green LCD, and one Blue LCD, to deliver vibrant, true-to-life, and consistent images. In addition, the Pro EX10000, with its advanced 3-chip 3LCD Technology, displays 100% of the RGB color signal for every frame. As a result, the 3LCD Technology provides outstanding color accuracy while maintaining excellent color brightness. This is accomplished without the “Rainbow Effect,” or color brightness issues sometimes seen with other projection technologies.

 SPLIT SCREEN

The Pro EX10000 comes equipped with Epson’s easy-to-use Split Screen capability. The screen can be split two-ways or four-ways, providing a handy feature for teachers and presenters who want to get imaginative with multiple sources. In addition, you can swap between screens quickly, thanks to the easy-to-use menu. Lastly, you can easily pull up a menu to choose which audio source you want to hear, so you can effectively switch your sound back and forth as needed.

LASER LIGHT SOURCE

Epson rated the Pro EX10000’s laser light source at 4,500 lumens. In addition, the laser light source is rated to last up to 20,000 hours in normal or quiet mode. Epson’s advertisements claim 20,000 hours of light source life for the Pro EX10000. However, when I actually read through the 257-page User’s Guide, I found out that the light source life bumps up to a whopping 30,000 hours in the Extended Light Source Mode. Even better, the Extended Light Source Mode is actually bright enough to use. As expected, the Pro EX10000’s User Guide notes that laser life will vary depending upon environmental conditions, usage and Mode selected.

The value proposition of using a laser projector is undeniable. Lasers are regularly brighter than lamps. Even as the quality of their output drops over time, it remains brighter longer. Laser light sources offer more accurate color than lamp light source models. Lamp-based models are somewhat comparable to new vehicle devaluation once the vehicle has been driven off the lot. Lamp brightness tends to decline precipitously after initial use. The brightness does not get better. Lasers are simply brighter than lamps. Lasers also offer improved contrast and a wider color gamut. They are practically maintenance-free; lasers never require lamp replacement!

The Pro EX10000 uses a sealed laser light source that does not need servicing and cannot be replaced. However, suppose you somehow manage to burn through 20,000 to 30,000 hours of light source time. In that case, you will need to contact Epson or an authorized Epson servicer. Keep in mind that you would need to use the projector every single day for six to ten years to come up with 20,000 to 30,000 hours on the projector.

GEOMETRY CORRECTION

No worries if you happen to set the projector up in a classroom or conference room where you cannot get the Pro EX10000 perfectly aligned and centered. The projector comes with digital geometry correction software to get you sorted out. First, the Pro EX10000 has ±30º manual horizontal keystone correction and ±30º auto vertical keystone correction. The keystone correction technology helps align the projector’s image vertically and horizontally to custom-fit walls or screens at numerous angles when the projector cannot be perfectly centered. Secondly, the end-user can also use the projector’s Quick Corner setting to correct the shape and size of an unevenly rectangular image that is uneven on all sides. Lastly, the Pro EX10000’s Arc Correction setting can adjust the curve or arc of the sides projector’s image.
