MAY 2016 UPDATE
Its now been 4 months since my review of the DLA-RS600 was published and nearly 3 months since the release of the first batch of Ultra HD Blu-ray discs. This update will cover my observations on the performance of the JVC projector when displaying 4K/UHD content coming from a Samsung UBD-8500K Ultra HD Blu-ray disc player. I experienced some connectivity issues between the Samsung player and the JVC projector that was discussed in my previous blog from back in late March 2016 -
HERE.
JVC has released one firmware update since the DLA-RS600 was released and Samsung has released a total of 5 firmware updates. Unofficial word is the JVC firmware update was intended to address specific HDMI connectivity issues with the Samsung player while Samsung has not indicated what each of their firmware updates was intended to address.
For this update I will first address how the JVC projector owners can obtain the JVC firmware update and also software from JVC for adding a new color profile. I will then address how the DLA-RS600 performs for the three UHD related enhancements supported by the Ultra HD Blu-ray discs. Specifically, these are 4K resolution, High Dynamic Range (HDR) and Wide Color Gamut (WCG).
