Color Management Settings

Mike's original settings have been replaced with these:

Color Management Settings (Default is 0)
Red Green Blue Cyan Magenta Yellow
x Offset 0 0 0 10 -12 -11
y Offset 0 -16 -25 10 -13 1
Brightness -20 +26 -20 14 -10 7

Please note that Mike's original calibration settings have been replaced.   As I reported in the review, Mike's calibration did not result in great color.  Two of our readers, however, have sent me the results of their own calibration.  They used a lower Brilliant Color setting (minimum), and whether for that reason or another, were able to get way more accurate color results.  I don't have an CIE charts for you, but I suggest that you try out the settings now published on this, and the previous page.. The settings now published here were sent in by Chintan Patel, which came from Steve Withers (posted originally on the AVSforum).  They definitely produce superior results.  Enjoy!

CMS Calibration Notes

The HD161x has a number of color gamut choices.  The HDTV and SMPTE-C color gamuts are decent representatives of their intended target (the secondaries are off a bit in hue), while the others are all expanded gamuts.  Using and CMS and starting with the HDTV gamut, I was able to hit all of the targets quite well and with a chromaticity error of 1.0% or less in most cases with a maximum of 4.4% in Cyan saturation.  Overall, the color balance dialed in quite well with the CMS.

The above are Mike's comments after he calibrated the HD161X.  While good information, since we're not using his settings not all of Mike's comments would apply.  -art
