CHASSIS

The projector chassis is a combination of metal and plastic. This is a good looking little projector with a smooth finish and rounded edges. It's about the size of a paperback book. Wemax describes it as a pocket-sized projector, but I think that is stretching things a bit. I could comfortably carry it around in a backpack pocket.

The Wemax Go Advanced does not have a control panel on the projector. I think this could be a problem if the remote gets misplaced. I looked for a Wemax smartphone projector control app but couldn't find one in the Google Play or Apple App store. There are generic projector control applications all over the Google Play store, but there is no guarantee of compatibility.

The Go Advanced measures 8.6" x 4.6" x 0.97" (W x D x H) and weighs just 1.7 pounds. The unit's slim form factor makes it easy to carry in a backpack or computer bag. Its shallow height also allows the Go Advanced to blend into almost any environment.

There is no tripod mount on the bottom of the projector just a kickstand.

INPUTS AND CONNECTIONS

The projector's HDMI port, 3.5mm audio jack, USB 2.0 port, and a USB Type-C power connection are located on the rear of the chassis.

THE LENS

The Wemax Go Advanced has a fixed lens with a powered lens focus. An autofocus Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensor is located next to the lens. The projector uses ToF technology for its super-quick autofocus feature.

The Go Advanced has a throw ratio of 1.2:1. Wemax recommends screen sizes between 40 and 120 inches diagonal. The chart below shows the throw distance for a few standard screen sizes.

Screen Size Throw Distance
70 inch 74 inches (1.87 meters)
80 inch 84 inches (2.1 meters)
90 inch 94 inches (2.40 meters)
100 inch 105 inches (2.67 meters)
120 inch 126 inches (3.2 meters)

MENUS

I found the home screen menu well-organized and easy to navigate. Once on the Go Advanced home screen menu, it’s easy to select the projector's app launcher, open a digital copy of the user manual, and adjust focus and keystone manually. Access to the projector's settings and file manager are located at the bottom of the main page. In addition, the casting function control, access Bluetooth speaker mode and input option controls are here as well.

REMOTE CONTROL

The remote on the Wemax Go Advanced resembles the typical Android TV device remote controls you see from companies such as Amazon and many others.

The Go Advanced also has a built-in wireless mouse mode that controls an on-screen cursor to select options (similar to a PC) with the remote's navigation button.

The remote has a microphone button, but when you press it, you get a message that says, "Voice function coming soon."
